9 Tips! How to manage over-eating and keep your health in check, during quarantine, and after!
Check em' out!
With most of the population confined to their homes, many people are facing new challenges. One of those challenges is over-eating.
Hi, friends! Molly from Keto Bars here. If you're like me, you've now set up your home office IN your kitchen, with a FULL fridge and FULL pantry stocked just a few feet away. Mix that with boredom, anxiety and higher-than-normal stress levels and you've got yourself quite a challenge.
I've compiled a list of tips that you may find helpful for maintaining a healthy diet during this not-so-normal time. Wishing you all the best!
1. Create a daily food plan.
Set up a food plan for the day (I like to do this in bed, the night before). Determine what you are going to eat for each meal and what time you are going to eat it. Not only will this help you stay on track but you'll spend less time wondering about what to eat and more time focusing on work/family.
2. Portion out your snacks.
Snacking is way up. Literally! Chip, pretzel and popcorn sales have increased 40% in the past month. If you're a snacker, I suggest portioning out your snack into a bowl and eating each piece mindfully.
3. Keep your HEALTH in mind.
There is NO better time to make health and nutrition a priority. Eating right isn't only about looking good, it's about taking care of our bodies so they can take care of us.
4. Stock your fridge strategically.
The trick to eating healthier snacks is by using the "see food" method. That's where you arrange your foods to spot the healthiest items first. According to a Cornell study, you're 3 times more likely to eat what's front in center!
5. Allow yourself a treat.
I'm a big fan of the 80/20 rule. This means eating well 80% of the time and allowing yourself a treat 20% of the time. Plan out what you're going to treat yourself to each day and look forward to it!
6. Drink water.
Anytime you're craving a snack, drink an entire glass of water. A lot of times our bodies think we're hungry when we're actually just thirsty. Drink up, and then see how you feel.
7. Remember your 'why'.
Remembering why you want to make healthy choices will help you stay on course. Make a list of specific reasons you want to be healthier. Keep this list handy for inspiration.
8. Buddy up!
Sticking to a healthy plan can be difficult on your own. Perhaps you can inspire your partner, your family or your friends to get on board with you. Having an accountability buddy can highly increase your chances of success.
9. Be kind to yourself.
This is not the "new normal". It is happening. It is hard. It is NOT normal. So, forgive yourself if you're not perfect during this time. All you can do is your best - whatever your best might be right now!
Stay safe, stay healthy.
All the best,
